Winter does not shut down the area, it just changes the focus. The Turtle Mountain region is home to over 500 miles of groomed snowmobile trails including an unique journey to the Turtle’s Back at Lake William where riders can stop and climb the viewing tower for a panoramic view of the Turtle Mountains and the prairies below. Throughout the Turtle Mountain Provincial Park there are numerous warm-up shelters to make your excursion even more enjoyable.
For those who don’t mind freezing temperatures, our nearby mountains become a winter wonderland from late October through early spring. Cross-country skiers will find ample opportunity to enjoy their sport on the groomed trails in the Turtle Mountains. The James Lake Cabin in the Turtle Mountain Provincial Park is available for overnight ski trips.
Other winter sports include snowshoeing, tobogganing, skating and curling.
